Staying Slim Whilst Pregnant

What To Eat Whilst Pregnant

Skinny Pregnancy Tip #1

Avoid pregnancy fatigue by limiting the amount of refined carbohydrates and sugar you eat.  Even though sugar may give you an instant energy boost, you will most likely feel tired soon after as your insulin levels spike and your blood sugar levels come crashing down again making you feel very weary and weak.

To control your blood sugar, ensure you are eating     protein with every single meal during the day  (examples might be eggs at breakfast, or raw nuts for your morning snack) and also eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables.  The fibre in these will help stabilise your blood sugar also.  A better “quick fix” alternative to chocolate or sugary sweets  is a handful of almonds with an apple.

Skinny Pregnancy Tip #2

Pay attention to the colour of your wee!  Remaining well hydrated is very important for your own health and the health of your baby.  Dehydration is a common cause of premature labour.  If your urine is very yellow or strong smelling when you get up in the morning, you are dehydrated and need to drink a lot of water.

If you feel thirsty, it’s too late.  You’re already dehydrated.  Carry your water bottle with you and avoid caffeine as it’s a diuretic and will make you want to wee often, dehydrating your body further.

Skinny Pregnancy Tip #3

Reduce or eliminate sugar – leads to tooth decay, diabetes and causes excessive weight gain.  Focus on gaining a healthy amount of weight, not an excessive amount of weight during pregnancy.  If you’re eating a lot of sugar you will gain excessive weight.  You put yourself at risk of gestational diabetes, high blood pressure and even a more challenging delivery due to excessive weight gain.

This doesn’t mean you have to torture yourself and not have a small piece of cake now and again, but the majority of the food you eat should not be sweet or contain high amounts of sugar.

New Baby Shower Game

So our latest is a twist on the old favourite and original game we designed, pin the dummy on the baby. This is the fun Egg and Sperm race Game. Priced at £3.95.We are always trying to come up with new and fun games to play at baby shower parties as more and more people are attending baby showers here in the UK.  We are often asked which different games do we have to the ones that were played at the last party attended as it will be the same groups of girls.

This Egg & Sperm Wonder Woman Womb themed game is truly hilarious and will really create the ‘fun factor’ at your baby shower party.

Based on the children’s favourite game – Pin the tail on the Donkey, this game requires you to pin the sperm onto the egg. Simply write your guests names onto the individual sperm stickers and hand to each player. Blindfold each player in turn and turn them around once or twice. Have them step forward and using only one hand, stick the sperm onto the poster bearing in mind that you need to be near the blue egg. After each player takes a turn, the one who sticks the sperm nearest to the egg is the winner.

This game includes:

1 x High quality A3 Size glossy poster
1 x Sheet of 20 adhesive sperm stickers
1 x Prize tag with Winner of Egg & Sperm Race Game printed onto it.

The Saturdays Plan Baby Shower For Rochelle

At 8 months pregnant, The Saturdays singer Rochelle Humes starts her maternity leave as her band mates head off to perform in Dublin.  Whilst Rochelle is busy with moving house, her band mates plan a baby shower for her and are in full swing organising this.

Frankie, Una, Mollie and Vanessa say they want to throw a “memorable” do for their pregnant pal.

A source close to the girls said: “The girls are super excited about becoming aunties again. They have been talking about giving this baby shower an American theme and are getting lots of American sweets flown in specially.”

And falling in tradition with giving gifts for a baby shower, Rochelle receives an Aston martin Buggy from friend and JLS star Aston Merrygold.

An Aston Martin buggy? Rochelle’s child is going to have the coolest wheels in the park.

The 24-year-old star revealed the extravagant gift via Instagram earlier today as celebrations got underway for her baby shower.

She wrote alongside the image: “Aston from Aston. The baby has cooler car than us. Naughty Uncle. X x”

The Benefits of Baby Massage

Touch is so important to our health and wellbeing. Think about the times when you’ve felt sad or alone. Didn’t a hug from a friend make you feel better? Likewise, your baby also feels better when held and comforted by your loving touch. In fact, studies have shown that touch therapy, including baby massage, contributes to a healthy weight gain, enhanced growth and social development in babies.

Language scientists are now beginning to understand that in many ways, touch is our first language. Gentle and loving touch can help small babies grow stronger and feel less anxiety. In many hospitals and birth centres, newborns are placed on the mother’s chest or abdomen to give them as much skin-to-skin contact as possible. The touch between the mother and her baby brings them emotionally close – a process known as bonding or attachment. In fact, in one study, premature infants who were massaged while at the hospital gained more weight and were ready to go home with their parents earlier than preemies who were not massaged.

Babies Babies offer both a baby massage oil with a guide to baby massage that has a step-by step guide to carrying out baby massage correctly and offering the most benefit.  As a parent you have the opportunity to set a positive blue print for your baby’s life by massaging them gently from birth and as they grow.

How To Hash Tag Update When You’re Pregnant

We all know that social media has its uses and this usually involves telling people what you are having for dinner  or snooping through old schoolmates’ holiday photos.  But, now Twitter and Facebook are also fantastic during preganacy.  They are helpful in keeping people updated on your baby news too.

But as with everything there is definitely a right and wrong way to do things, so here is our brief guide to thoses dos and don’ts.  As a Dad To Be you want to get everything right and this includes #updating when you are expecting!

1. Do be sensitive until the first 12 week scan.  Before this scan you are probably trying to keep your news quiet so tweeting @night out. @the missus on the lime&sodas #not like her’ is a bit of a giveaway.

2. It is advisable not to post your news as soon as you walk out of the scan room as your family and close friends will prefer finding out the old-fashioned way.

3. Don’t let party posts get you down.  Your missus won’t be hitting the town as she usually does, and being the supportive bloke you will be turning down nights out to stay in with her.  So don’t let friends’ lively party pics make you feel like you are missing out.  It won’t be the last big night out and if it was so amazing, why were they spending it online?!!

4. Don’t give too much detail.  It’s fine and great to tweet or post facebook updates through the labour.  Friends and family will welcome regular bits of news but stay clear of TMI.  Although you are excited about your new life entering the world, you are not giving a blow-by-blow account of an episode of One Born Every Minute.
