Melissa Joan Hart Donates Baby Shower Gifts to Charity!

Melissa Joan Hart turned her baby shower on Friday (29Jun12) into a charity event by asking guests to donate toys or books to a non-profit organisation in lieu of gifts for the mum-to-be.

The former Sabrina, The Teenage Witch star and her husband Mark Wilkerson will welcome the third addition to their family this autumn (12) and Hart was joined by friends, including fellow actresses Soleil Moon Frye, Yvette Nicole Brown, Kellie Martin, and her Melissa and Joey TV co-star Taylor Spreitler, at The Little Door restaurant in Los Angeles last week to mark the occasion.

Guests granted her kind-hearted request and brought unwrapped presents for donation to Operation Shower, which provides gifts for parents-to-be in the U.S. military.

Hart tells, “After two precious babies and a successful career, I didn’t want people to spend money on me and the baby. We wanted to help out families that needed a hand and decided to donate baby goods to military families”.

And Hart admits she can’t wait to meet her new baby – because this time she and her husband have decided to keep the tot’s sex a secret.

She tells People.com, “We always wanted the mystery the other two times around but the first time we gave into pressure from everyone and curiosity, and the second time our ultrasound technician gave it away before we had a chance to stop them. “I’m anticipating meeting this baby more than the other two before.

I can recognise every little movement this time and I’m already in love”. Hart and Wilkerson, who wed in 2003, are also parents to sons Mason, six, and Braydon, four.

Take That’s Mark Owen is a Dad again!

Take That star Mark Owen has become a dad again after his wife Emma Ferguson gave birth to a baby girl called Fox India Owen.

The couple already have two kids, Elwood, five, and Willow Rose, three.

A spokesman for Mark said: “Mark, Emma, Elwood and Willow are delighted to announce the arrival to the clan of their beautiful new baby girl Fox India Owen.

“They would like to thank all their friends and family for all the wonderful messages.

“She was born yesterday at 7.45am, weighing 7lb 1oz.”

Bandmate Gary Barlow sent his good wishes to Mark today via Twitter, saying: “Massive congratulations to the Owens on the birth of their daughter Fox.”

Mark tied the knot with actress Emma in a fairytale Highland wedding in November 2009 at tiny Cawdor Church, Inverness-shire.

The couple had a rocky patch in 2010 when Owen spiralled out of control on booze and admitted he had bedded ten different women while with Emma.

He checked himself into rehab in a bid to beat his demons and got his relationship back on track with his supportive wife.

He was the second Take That star to tie the knot after songwriter Gary Barlow, 38, took the plunge with his fiancée Dawn in 2000.

Bandmates Robbie Williams, 38, and Gary Barlow, 41, are also expectant dads – with Gary due to become a father for the fourth time in the coming weeks.

Baby Tips

Baby teeth tips

Top 5 things to think about when it comes to your baby’s teeth:

1. Start from birth

Looking after your baby’s teeth starts from birth. Ensure that they are given a range of both sweet and savoury foods so that they are given a selection of tastes from an early age.

2. Cleaning first teeth

Baby teeth begin to erupt at around 6-12 months.  As soon as they appear a cotton bud with water can be used to clean these teeth at the front of the mouth. This introduces the baby to the concept of cleaning teeth and is best done with the baby sitting on the mum or dad’s lap. Once the baby is able to wriggle then you may need help from another person – but making teeth cleaning into a fun game can certainly help the process.

3. Use children’s toothpaste

When very young it is best to use a children’s toothpaste in a very small quantity initially until they get to like the taste. A pea sized amount should be used for children under seven and they should always be supervised when brushing to minimize the chances of swallowing.

4. First trip to the dentist

Two to three years is the best time to take your child to the dentist for the first time as most baby teeth have erupted by that age. The first trip to the dentist can be a tricky time so I recommend playing the ‘dentist looking in the mouth’ game beforehand to help them get used to people looking in their mouth. Initially the child may feel better being on the parent’s lap and over a couple of visits they will graduate to sitting on the chair. Highlight the fun element of the moving chair as it is moved into a working position!

All children are different, and some won’t be in the least fazed by the surgery, where others won’t  be ready until they are four or five.  Parents shouldn’t worry too much about this – providing they are cleaning teeth at home with a fluoride toothpaste and have a low sugar diet then they should have healthy teeth.

5. The right toothpaste

Oral hygiene is so important at this young age so you should start with a baby toothbrush and progress to a child’s size as they get older. The toothpaste you use must contain Fluoride as the daily application of fluoride in the paste helps to strengthen the enamel surface and resist the acid attacks from food. Make sure your child has a healthy diet; avoid fizzy drinks and food with high sugar levels. If you do give them sweets as a treat, it’s best for their teeth to have them after a meal.

Your babies development

Becoming Sociable At three months of age, your baby is really beginning to take her place in the world. She actively seeks the attention of those closest to her, smiles and vocalises to communicate her pleasure. But as her social world expands, she faces the challenge of predicting other people’s behaviour and this can sometimes make her anxious.

Your baby’s growing social awareness.  At three months, your baby smiles in response to other people’s smiles, and may even vocalise her pleasure at seeing people she recognises. She is growing more social by the day. She has learnt to differentiate between those close to her, and may show her recognition in the facial expressions and the sounds she makes. Babies tend to behave differently towards the various important individuals in their lives, adjusting the way they attract and hold attention accordingly. As your little one matures, learns more about the world and settles into routines, she may find new experiences more difficult to deal with. She has been getting used to her parents and other family members and, to some degree, can predict their behaviour. She knows what to expect from her main caregivers, but strangers are a different story. So don’t be surprised if your little one seems unsure and fusses when she now meets a new person. This is perfectly normal. The more alert and communicative your baby becomes, the more her social world expands. And, as a result of this, she faces new challenges on a daily basis. Be patient, and if you feel she is overwhelmed or over-stimulated, take her aside for some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of the visitors.

Your Shopping Checklist

Are you ready with all your baby must-haves? Have you shopped til you dropped and ticked off all the items on your list? Or are you still baffled by babygros and cotton cellular blankets?

Shopping for your newborn A FEW MUST HAVE’s Time for a little shopping trip. You may think it’s a bit too soon to be worrying about baby’s wardrobe, but it doesn’t hurt to be prepared. Your baby may arrive earlier than expected – so best not leave everything to the last minute and prepare a shopping list. Here’s a list of items you will need for your baby’s early days. How many items you end up opting for will, to some extent, depend on how much washing you are prepared to do!

• Newborn nappies
• Cotton wool
• 2 or 3 soft, baby-sized towels for bath-time
• a bath thermometer
• Muslin squares (always useful to mop up baby dribbles or leaking milk!)
• A well-fitting mattress for the cot, moses basket or carrycot you plan to use at first.
• Several cotton cellular baby blankets (so that you can easily adjust the number of layers covering your sleeping baby to prevent overheating – remember a folded blanket counts as two layers).
• Several cotton sheets
• 6 or so front-fastening cotton stretchsuits, babygroes, or all-in-ones
• 6 or so cotton body vests (long and short-sleeved with poppers)
• 1 or 2 cardigans
• A few pairs of socks or booties
• a couple of cotton hats
• 2 pairs of scratch mittens
• a baby shall or small pram blanket for baby’s journey home.

But remember that your newborn will quickly outgrow his clothes, and you may also receive many more items as baby gifts after the birth. Buy the basic essentials now, and get the rest when you need it. You’ll have a much better idea of exactly what is useful once your baby has arrived and you have embarked on the exciting new job of caring for your newborn.
